The extensive genus, ''Polistes'', inhabits North America, all the way to Eurasia. The ''Polistes'' genus exhibits a wide range of varying black and yellow color patterns. The ''Polistes nimpha'' is generally more black-patterned than its relative, ''Polistes dominula''.
